Considering a modular home? Explore the benefits and features here.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
- Modular homes and additions are built in part or wholly in the factory in a controlled environment which yields a home that is a higher level of quality and has a faster build time which reduces interest carry cost during construction.
- Modular home builders have the financial buying leverage and economy of scale that small custom home builders cannot deliver. Production in an efficient factory setting with skilled craftsmen and precise machinery. Modular home building is actually a better value than field constructed homes.
- While the stick built homes are completed on site modular homes are transported to the site almost completed which reduces the carry cost during construction. For additions and custom homes in “infill” neighborhoods it is less invasive to the neighbors and to you by reducing the construction time to just 1/3 the time of normal stick built construction.
- The finish product is indistinguishable from field built (stick built) homes. Your custom design can be adapted to the modular process to yield the custom look of a traditional home.
WHAT DO MODULAR HOMES LOOK LIKE?
A well-designed modular home cannot be distinguished from a field constructed home. Please visit the National Association of Homebuilders to see more.
HOW MUCH IS A MODULAR HOME?
Traditional Energy Star rated new home construction starts at $135 per square foot. The same modular home starts at $1.08 per sq. foot for factory direct homes completed wholly in the factory. Customization, upgrades, and a higher level of energy efficiency can add anywhere from $5 -$25 per square foot to the price. Please contact us for a more specific quote for your home.
Additions can vary widely depending on the specific site condition, the field work to prepare for the addition (i.e. removal of an existing roof, access to the site, the cost to upgrade HVAC, electrical and the amount of plumbing). Generally speaking additions that would be stick built in the field and cost $175 per square foot will cost approximately $132 per square foot yielding a 25% savings over stick built additona.
